Important Motion on Off-license Developments Passed

Dublin City Development Plan Motion 3027

That this Council reinstates policy RD9A which prohibits the further expansion of off
licenses or part off licenses except in areas where a compelling case can be made. Any
application for an off license should include a map of all off licenses located within 1km
radius of the proposed development.

RD9A
To prohibit the further expansion of off-licences or part off-licences except in areas
where a compelling case can be made. Any application for an off-licence should include
a map of all off-licences located within a 1km radius of the proposed development.

Cllr. Perry said:
“A prohibition of even more off-licenses in Dublin would appear to be an extremely sensible measure given the well document problems with alcohol in our communities.”

“As a society we claim to be attempting to address this problem but when we as a council get an opportunity to actually implement a coherent policy in relation to off licenses we capitulate before the might of Tesco and commercial interests.”

“There is no complete prohibition on off licenses. This policy contains the provision for an off license “where a compelling case can be made.””
