"Margaret Thatcher” Jibe at Labour Party TD Joe Costello by Property Tax Protesters
Anti property tax protest to target Joe Costello TD
Campaigners vow to make him the "Margaret Thatcher of Dublin Central"
The ongoing protests at the constituency office of Labour Party TD Joe Costello continues this weekend. Members of the Campaign Against Home and Water Taxes (CAHWT) in Dublin Central are targeting the TD , whom they say "lied to get elected".
According to Claire Casey of the East Wall CAHWT: " Both government parties lied to get themselves elected . In power they have continued to implement the disastrous economic policies of Fianna Fail which are inflicting great hardship on people."
Claire Casey continued: " In Dublin Central however , the real anger is directed at the Labour Party , and residents feel a real sense of betrayal with Joe Costello and his cronies. They have no mandate to impose this unfair tax on the family home, and as our poster says , Labour are now just debt collectors for the bond holders".
Cllr Cieran Perry of the Cabra CAHWT compared Joe Costello to the late Margaret Thatcher: " In the week that saw the funeral of the hated Margaret Thatcher , it's worth remembering that her political demise came a long time ago. The so called Iron Lady was finally defeated by the people who rejected the poll tax in Britain. We believe that the Labour Party imposition of the unjust so called property tax in Ireland will destroy them , and we will look back and remember Costello as the Margaret Thatcher of Dublin Central."
Tommy Coyne of the Navan Road CAHWT says that locals want to see Joe Costello suffer the same political fate as Margaret Thatcher : " Margaret Thatcher was a hate figure because of her anti working class attacks , and the celebrations after her death were unprecedented. For a Labour Party TD to be compared to Thatcher is a truly appalling insult, but one Joe Costello fully deserves, and we truly hope that his support for the property tax is seen as a political death warrant.
